Position Purpose The Eye Bank Laboratory Technician position is responsible for the evaluation and processing of donated ocular tissue for transplantation. This position prepares work stations for lamellar preparations, post processing workstations, performs cleaning and sterilization of instruments, evaluates eye tissue, processes eye tissue which includes but is not limited to DSAEK, DMEK, PDEK and ALK. This position works a rotating schedule ensuring adequate coverage in the Laboratory.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities · Prepare instrument kits for sterilization · Sterilize instrumentation · Circulate in the lab in support of the processing of corneal tissue for lamellar preparations DSAEK, DMEK, PDEK, and ALK · Use independent judgement to perform corneal evaluation via specular, slit lamp and black light microscopy, and OCT · Complete required documentation and perform data entry following LEITR policies and procedures · Perform lamellar-tissues processing including DSAEK, DMEK, PDEK and ALK · Perform sclera preservation · Perform all functions in adherence to LEITR policies and procedures · Ensures compliance at all times with FDA, EBAA, and the state and federal regulatory agencies · Perform laboratory maintenance following LEITR policies · Assist with packaging, shipping and receiving as needed · Perform other duties as requested by management
