The EMS Operations Manager provides direct management of the EMS department and personnel. The EMS Operations Manager duties include the operational and clinical oversight of the departments' ambulance units and personnel; leadership and supervision of the staff and evaluation of assigned units and personnel. Additionally, the role may respond EMS calls to provide supervision and clinical evaluation of personnel, under the direction of the EMS Medical Director. The EMS Operations Manager promotes compliance with federal, state and local authorities relating to specific requirements related to the EMS service. This role serves as or assigns personnel to serve as incident commander or medical sector commander in large scale events. The EMS Operations Manager is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week unless out on leave or vacation at that time. All leadership passes back to the Medical Director and the assigned personnel will be responsible for shift leadership and to contact the EMS Operations Manager if needed for guidance.
The EMS Operations Manager job duties also include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for selection and hiring of ems staff as well as orientation and training of new hires.
Develops, implements and manages operational (clinical & non-clinical) training for new hires and existing staff, including (but not limited to): vehicle operations; equipment operations; map/district way-finding; etc.
Provides and schedules adequate personnel and resources for the orientation and training of new hires.
Develop, implement and manage processes, procedures and documents to effectively manage requests for medical standbys and public relations events, and for the operations on-site at such events.
Assess standby and special event requests for approval in the context of the mission, vision and goals of the Department.
Works with licensing authorities (DSHS) to maintain current up to date licensure requirements as well as with non-licensing entities to maintain affiliations and regional connections with those entities.
Works with Human Resources to identify staff members in need of documentation of compliance and to collect such documentation.
Accurately evaluates the performance of EMS personnel on the scene.
Provides appropriate and effective feedback to EMS personnel regarding their operational and clinical performance on the scene, including proper documentation as required.
Adapts assessment, treatment and/or transport plans/interventions based upon unique circumstances of patient and environment. Makes appropriate, independent decisions in selecting calls to which to respond, based on system status and other appropriate factors.
The ideal candidate for the EMS Operations Manager role will be able to make appropriate, effective and independent decisions regarding resource allocation, including deployment and posting, as well as response, to ensure optimal response to calls for service.
