We are currently seeking qualified candidates for a Chief Medical Officer position for AdventHealth Heart of Florida and AdventHealth Lake Wales hospitals in Polk County, Florida.
The campus Chief Medical Officer (C-CMO) is responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction and overall operational management of physician services and medical staff administration for the campus. The C-CMO works with the System CMO and respective campus administrator to develop strategic plans and policies and address operational issues to build effective relationships between the hospital and its medical staff. The C-CMO also drives excellence in clinical outcomes. Working with the campus Chief Nursing Officer and campus Patient Safety Officer, the C-CMO creates multidisciplinary approaches to clinical outcome management and environments of quality and safety. The C-CMO works closely with AdventHealth medical staff and system leadership on system-wide standardizations. Works to educate, consult and advise members of the medical staff on regulatory updates and changes related to CDI,HIM, utilization management and care management. Serves as a community resource and provides counsel to campus administrator on medical and administrative matters related to medical practice and current clinical issues/ affairs. The C-CMO oversees physician alignment and physician supply and demand for the campus. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Â·Works with the Department /section chairpersons, Medical Directors, Chief of Staff, and contracted physicians to ensure that appropriate structure, policies and procedures are operational for accreditation and performance excellence
Â·Develops, monitors, and evaluates performance/process improvement, disease management, utilization review activities, and standards to improve quality outcomes both clinically and administratively ensuring the highest standards in treatment and care of patients. Advocates the use of evidence-based medicine.
Â·Establishes and implements standards and policies to ensure quality medical care. Drives clinical outcomes for the campus. Works collaboratively with senior management, patient care leaders, and managers as well as staff to accomplish goals. Serves as a member of the campus senior management team and assists in strategic development of initiatives and programs.
Â·Consults and advises members of the medical staff on excessive or inappropriate utilization of resources and medical necessity.
Â·Participates in the review long stay and/or complex care patients in conjunction with the director of care management and patientâ™s medical team to facilitate the most appropriate level of care.
Â·Collaborates with medical staff leaders including department medical directors and elected medical staff leaders on hospital and patient safety issues. Assists in the moderation of major physician-to-physician, physician-to-staff, and physician-to-patient interactions in partnership with the campus Chief of Staff and other medical staff leaders. Ensures medical staff development plans and programs are implemented and aligned with those of the hospital. Promotes shared goals and teamwork in interactions with medical staff, clinical staff, and administration. Supports the clinical team and promotes individual growth among medical staff and clinical leaders.
Â·Works with the Department of Medical Directors, Chief of Staff, and contracted physicians to ensure that appropriate structures, policies, and procedures are operational for accreditation and performance excellence.
Â·Participates in the annual operating and capital budget process by providing input.
Â·Responsible for physician engagement strategies including supporting community physicians in physician recruitment and promoting programs which enhance physician satisfaction. Actively engaged in efforts to recruit medical staff members who will support the mission, vision, values, and purpose of Seventh-day Adventist healthcare.
Â·Supports the medical staff in its governance and accountability to the Hospital Board for quality and safety of patient care. Assures medical staff compliance with CMS, bylaws, rules & regulations and code of conduct.
Â·Provides support to and champions the organizationâ™s infection prevention program. Acts as intermediary between the campus infection prevention coordinator and individual physicians and/or physician groups to resolve problems related to infection control practice issues.
Â·Supports quality and safety initiatives of AdventHealth through education, standardization and implementation of system strategies.
Â·Facilitates data driven activities that lower the cost of care including evaluation of use of supplies, devices, medications, and other physician preference items.
Â·Provides guidance on developing protocols where appropriate for the use of laboratory, pharmacy, and diagnostic testing with the objective to meet hospital goals where needed.
Â·Regularly attends all relevant campus medical staff meetings, administrative team meetings, and other meetings where appropriate.
Â·From a physicianâ™s perspective, affirmatively provides counsel to senior management team discussions and action plans related to service changes, improvements, new service/program offerings inclusive of all operational and strategy decisions.
Â·Takes a lead role on campus sentinel event teams. During an emergency, disaster, or catastrophic event, C-CMO may be assigned to any disaster service activity that promotes the protection of public health and safety.
Â·Maintains current knowledge of accreditation bodies, State of Florida, AdventHealth, and any other relevant, regulatory or reporting organizations standards on quality indicators and certification processes. Ensures compliance with all relevant licensing and accrediting bodies. Provides leadership and vision in the development of clinical guidelines and care pathways.
Â·Serves as a system lead in an assigned clinical focused area such as patient safety, emergency medicine, surgery, epidemiology, hospital medicine, etc. In the system role, the C-CMO will become the system subject matter expert and provide consultation/expertise to all of the clinical team.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Â·Maintains current knowledge of accrediting bodies, State of Florida, AdventHealth, and any other relevant, regulatory or reporting organizationsâ™ standards on quality indicators and certification processes
Â·Working knowledge of medical informatics, applied statistical techniques, and analytical tools/processes
Â·Planning, goal setting and results measurement, budgeting, negotiation, operations management and process improvement skills
Â·Current and up to date on hospital clinical quality, benchmarking, and best practices
Â·Well versed in managed care and health policy
Â·Ability to work effectively with hospital administration, staff, clinicians, physicians and community members
Â·Effective communication, organization, leadership and decision-making skills
Â·Proficient in use of office technology such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Â·MD / DO degree from an accredited program
Â·MBA or masterâ™s degree in a related field (preferred)
Â·Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience
Â·At least five years in a physician executive/leadership role
Â·Board Certified in recognized medical specialty
Â·Current Florida license or licensure from another state with verification of application and eligibility for Florida licensure endorsement
