The Histotechnologists at Penn State Health are responsible for the performance of various histological procedures, techniques and processes utilized in the Histology and/or Dermatopathology Laboratory. Responsibilities include preparing tissue sections for light microscopy to include frozen sections, processing,embedding, sectioning, routine staining (H & E) and labeling. In addition, they perform special stains as requested by the Pathologist.
Histotechnologists also perform procedures such as immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and decalcifications on paraffin and frozen sections. They prepare and maintain a wide variety of stains and other chemical reagents for specialized and complex procedures as requested. Responsibilities also include maintaining QA/QC logs accurately and in a timely manner, maintaining and troubleshooting equipment as necessary including processors, stainers, coverslipper water baths and microtomes. Your ideas and Insite will be put to use in an open feedback environment.
ASCP HT Certification or equivalent OR 2 years in an ASCP accredited Histology Laboratory.
Must be task oriented and a self-motivator.
Applicants trained outside of the United States must provide documentation of equivalency evaluation of their education and training to ensure it is equivalent to CLIA requirements. The equivalency evaluations will be performed by a nationally recognized organization. Ex. National Association Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES), the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE). The applicant is responsible for paying the cost of the equivalency evaluation.
