As a surgical coordinator they are responsible for strategically planning, coordinating, and assisting with scheduling surgical procedures, biopsy s, and diagnostic testing. He/ she must be extremely organized, consistently demonstrate attention to detail, outstanding time management skills, and be a member of the team.
Surgical Coordinator Responsibilities:
Must be knowledgeable of ICD-10 & CPT Coding
Accountable for confirmation of appointments 48 hours in advance to appointment, verification of insurance, and confirmation of co-payment in advance
Coordinates medical record request with attorney s and patient s
Must follow-up with patients as per the physician desire
Schedule surgeries according to the date and time feasible for patient s schedule and attending
Be responsible for triaging patient questions related to medical procedures performed, and use judgment when to refer to Nurse Practitioner, Resident, or Attending
Must maintain excellent inter-personal skills with physicians, their staff, and demonstrate outstanding communication with other departments within system
Ability to answer questions which are simple and associated with payments and insurance plans of the patients. (The rest of the complex matters questioned should be directed to the billing office.)
Responsible for faxing reports of the notes related to the operations, anatomical aspects, surgical pathology reports and other medical reports to the referred physician
Must be compliant with the goals and priorities of the patient care management team
Works under general supervision and reports to Practice Manager.
Associate degree required Bachelor s degree in Communication or Health Care related field preferred
The ideal candidate should have 1-3 years experience in the healthcare field.
Must possess outstanding written and verbal communications skills
Must be flexible and be able to evaluative difficult situations
Knowledge of EMR, Microsoft Office, and Internet
Completion of all Saint Barnabas Medical Center Programs.
