Summary of job. The Ocular Services Supervisor supports the mission, goals and strategic plan of Nevada Donor Network, Inc. ( NDN) through supporting the Director/Manager of the Eye Bank with the clinical and technical eye bank daily functions This includes assisting with the coordination of laboratory services including ocular processing, donor eligibility determination functions and tissue placement while assisting to ensure that the operations of the Eye Bank are performed in accordance with the Food and Drug Administration ( FDA), Eye Bank Association of American (EBAA) and NDN polices and procedures.
Essential Functions Statement(s):
Assist the Director or Manager of the Eye Bank to better realize the mission as it relates to the Eye Bank
Assists with ensuring that proper methods and techniques are perform in all eye bank functions to comply with regulatory compliance and standards.
Supervises the work flow of technical staff to ensure timely and accurate tissue processing, tissue evaluations, donor eligibility determination and ocular tissue release.
Monitors and supervises the laboratory and equipment maintenance and cleaning program ensuring compliance with FDA regulations, EBAA standards and NDN polices.
Provides training and daily supervision to staff performing eye bank functions including tissue processing, donor eligibility determination and tissue placement
Conducts periodic performance evaluations on Eye Bank staff and routinely provides feedback to staff regarding performance and expectations
Identifies process improvement opportunities to ensure ongoing high performance of the department and assist the Director/Manager of the Eye bank to execute changes to streamline protocols, procedures, and processes related to eye bank functions
Performs other duties as assigned.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: Bachelor’s Degree. Relevant work experience may be substituted for academic requirements. Experience: Minimum four years eye banking experience to include donor eligibility, Laboratory Services and technical ocular tissue skills. Minimum two years Supervisory experience in regulated or certified industry (Ocular or MS Tissue), prefer MDD
Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft office programs
Certificates & Licenses: CEBT preferred or certification within 18 to 24 months
Other Requirements: Proficient in aseptic technique, universal precautions, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology required. Be available for “on call” rotation donor screening and distribution.
