Summary Statement: The VGW Processing Supervisor is primarily responsible for leading and directing daily tasks related to tissue processing, and will act as a lead for these matters to ensure they are accomplished. The Processing Supervisor will act as the primary trainer for processing staff, in collaboration with the VP of Laboratory Services. The Processing Supervisor will be the lead for all processing programs, including addressing issues from ASED patients and requesting physicians. The Processing Supervisor will lead the department in implementing any new service lines in collaboration with the VPLS. The VP of Laboratory Services provides specific training and is the immediate supervisor. The Processing Supervisor must be dedicated to the performance of eye banking and have strong communication skills.
Essential Functions and Duties:
Process DMEK, DSAEK, halo, and other tissue as needed
Monitor daily operations including DMEK, DSAEK, halo, ASED etc. and assign workload to ensure processing is completed within timelines
Serve as lead trainer for Portland processing staff
Under the supervision of the VPLS, coordinate investigative efforts into developing new processing techniques
Act as lead for implementing process improvements identified by Quality Audits, R&D projects, etc.
Perform all duties of processing staff as necessary
Maintain a professional demeanor and interact well with others
Assist with management duties under the direction of VPLS
Perform other duties as indicated by supervisor

Education: A Bachelors degree in science is recommended though commensurate experience may substitute for degree.
Experience/Qualifications:While tissue processing related to this position is learned through extensive on-the-job training, a medical background is desirable. Minimum of three years direct experience in tissue processing, training of technicians in various types of tissue processing, and day to day operations of the processing department are essential. Very fine motor skills are required for processing tissue for transplant. Previous supervisory or management experience will be viewed favorably.
