Provides nursing care to patients at the GBH and GMC Campuses in SPU/PACU (Preop/Recovery). Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned nursing staff.
A clinically competent professional registered nurse who delivers nursing care in Pre-Surgery, Short Procedure and PACU units through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation. Patient population ranges from infancy through geriatrics. Possesses the ability to interact with the hospital and community population in accordance with the individual’s age group and level of growth and development. Effectively interacts with patient, significant other(s), health care team members and ancillary personnel, while maintaining standards of professional nursing. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Clinic Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse. Functions in the charge nurse position when delegated and assumes the responsibility for the assignment of and supervision of all nursing staff members on his/her unit, for the direct and indirect provision of nursing care.
Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximize patient satisfaction.
Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction.
Serves as part of the care team and therefore accountable for demonstrating behaviors and skills that support the success of the team. Provides adherence to requirements mandated by Joint Commission, OSHA, DOH, HIPPA, Performance Improvement, Infection Control and Safety Management.
Works under the supervision of the assigned nurse manager and the Operations Managers for GBH/GMC Campuses.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Valid and current Registered Nurse licensure from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or eligibility for licensure required.
Graduated from an approved school of nursing required.
BLS certification required for employment.
ACLS, PALS and PEAT required within one year of employment, and maintenance of provider status thereafter required.
For Registered Nurses with less than five (5) years’ work experience as an RN, a BSN degree is required or enrollment in a BSN program within 12 months of hire date with BSN degree completed within 4 years of hire date required.
For Registered Nurses with more than 5 years of work experience as an RN with Critical/Acute Care experience, a BSN is not required.
For current Geisinger Registered Nurses who transfer into this position, BSN degree is preferred.
Duration of on the job training to become familiar with job duties varies by individual.
Minimum one-year experience in a Preoperative or PACU area preferred.
Prior experience in Medical/Surgical nursing preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. Lifting patients, bending and extended periods of standing and walking are involved in the job duties. Work is performed in a clean, well-ventilated, well-equipped environment with possible exposure to patients with infectious diseases or to bodily fluids which may contain infectious agents as well as anesthetics, radiations and chemicals.
Adheres to dress code/attire policies. Appearance is neat and clean. Reports to work on time and as scheduled. Wears ID badge while on duty, per policy. Limits lunch and breaks to scheduled time and maintains flexibility to allow coverage and efficiency within the GBH and GMC campuses per policies.
Cross-trains between PAT, SPU, OPS, PACU and the infusion center at GBH, and cross-trains in Same-Day (Pre-Op and Post-Op) PACU (Pre-Op and Post-Op), and 10 Bay Pediatric (Pre-Op and Post-Op) at GMC.
