To become a member of the radiation oncology team with the knowledge of the overall characteristics and clinical relevance of radiation oncology treatment, and treatment planning. Someone cognizant of procedures used in stereotactic radio-surgery, stereotactic body radiotherapy, and brachytherapy.To have the education and expertise necessary to generate dose distributions and dose calculations, and to direct the treatment planning process as designated by the radiation oncologist and medical physicist. Prepares radiation therapy treatment plans according to physicians dose prescription using computerized methods for review and approval by the physician and medical physicist.
Calculates patient radiation therapy dose prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist using computer and hand-calculation techniques.
Prepare contours of areas to be planned and treated
Enter information into record & verify system detailing information relating to target dose, skin dose, off-axis dose, field weighting and placement of wedges, shields, and compensating devices.
Assist radiation therapists in the implementation of patient treatment plans.
Communicate to physician and physicist any unusual patient treatment and/or setups.
Perform/assist in patient simulation process
Positions patient in Computed Tomography for simulation.
Design and fabricate compensating filters, shielding blocks, bolus and molds as required.
