Position Purpose The Donor Services Coordinator is responsible for obtaining consent from next of kin and for the processing of incoming referrals from agencies and/or other partners.
Essentials Duties and Responsibilities • Supports the Mission, Vision, and Values of LEITR and exhibits a personal commitment to organ donation. • Responsible for the processing of incoming eye and tissue referrals from the answering service and hospitals to include but not limited to the following: o Completing Medical screenings promptly; o Assessment of donor eligibility; o Completion of necessary referral paperwork; o Data entry of referral outcome; o Dispatch Transplant Coordinators in a timely and efficient manner; • Handle inbound calls to the Donor Services Center during assigned shifts and process accordingly; • Pertinent information is passed along to Recovery Coordinator and/or Directors as necessary; • Ensure requests from Recovery and Research department are fulfilled as needed; • Completion of all tasks listed on the shift summary report are assigned and accomplished by shifts end; • Facilitate Recovery Staff in obtaining additional files and/or medical charts as time permits; • Follow up on assigned projects; and • May perform other duties as requested by management
Knowledge, Skills, Ability • Demonstrate exceptional customer service, organizational skills, and multitasking skills; • Excellent oral and written communication including ability to follow-up; • Ability to interact with co-workers within and outside of the department as well as outside agencies; • Ability to effectively prioritize shifting activities; • Detail oriented and ability to maintain focus; • Adaptability to change; • Must have a sense of urgency; • Possess intermediate computer skills; • Must read and write English; • Knowledge of medical and ophthalmic terminology plus; • Ability to cope with issues pertaining to death is essential; • Be a self-starter and perform work independently; • Time management skills; • Must be able to take their fair share of calls, cover weekends and holidays as needed; Education and Experience • High School Diploma or equivalent required • One to two years customer service experience required • One to two years’ experience in Medical industry, Organ / Tissue or Eye donation preferred • Call Center experience preferred
Work Environment The work environment described here are representative of those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to a laboratory-like environment and office like-environment. The noise level is usually low. Open discussions about donor health and circumstances of death occur throughout the day. Equipment required for this position include but are not limited to, standard office space and equipment, standard PC equipment and printers, and telephone and/or headset. Physical Demands The physical demands, representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job include, but are not limited to: regularly required to sit, stand, talk, see and hear; needing to possess conversational hearing, with or without aid, as well as adequate vision; required to possess dexterity to operate standard office equipment; occasionally required to lift 40 pounds or more.
