The Director of Operating Rooms (OR) provides general oversight, leadership and 24-hour responsibility for the four surgical departments at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center/Miller Children's & Women's Hospital Long Beach. The Director of OR functions as a point of contact for customer service for physicians, Clinical Operations Managers and Administration. The Director of OR ensures that the division’s goals, philosophies and objectives are achieved and supported through MC21 Daily Management System process controls. The Director of OR is a major contributor of insight into physician partnerships and performance improvement. Facilitates breakthrough improvements and oversees successful implementations and sustainment of Lean initiatives as they support the Value Stream. Is future-oriented and can identify emerging trends in projects. This Director of OR requires extreme resourcefulness and customer service orientation. The Director has fiscal responsibility for all resources defined during the budget process. The success of the position depends significantly on their ability to participate well with others and/or collaborate with other managers within the Division of Nursing and the Medical Center.
A Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN).
A Master’s in Nursing, Business Administration or Hospital Administration is preferred.
10+ years of senior Surgical Services experience.
5+ years of significant and proven project management experience.
2+ years of Lean Principles experience is preferred.
Highly analytical, creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
Broad understanding of key areas of the healthcare industry.
Proven leadership, supervision and motivational abilities.
Excellent analytical, communication (oral & writing) and interpersonal skills.
Competent with electronic business applications (MS Office/E-mail/PDA)
Lean leadership experience is preferred.
Complete Lean Leader and Facilitative Leadership training within 6 months of hire.
Complete Lean Leader Certification with 1 year of hire.
Work with minimal supervision with tolerance to tight deadlines, time pressures and ambiguity.
