Provides all functions necessary for diagnostic ultrsound procedures.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures as directed by physicians. Elicits pertinent information concerning the procedure and the patient's history from the medical chart and the patient. Explains the procedure to the patient. Positions the patient appropriately. Selects the appropriate transducer and scan parameters. Assists the radiologist during special procedures. Monitors the patient's condition during procedures. Prepares hard copy images.
Prepares study to be read by the radiologist. Completes procedure information and observations on the appropriate forms and folders. Charges the procedure and writes diagnosis information on the charge ticket. Retrieves old studies for comparison. Places on and removes studies from the film viewer for the radiologist.
Keeps work area clean, organized and stocked with supplies necessary for diagnostic ultrasound.
Performs related work as required.
Maintains daily records of the number and types of procedures performed and the number of exams ordered by each referring physician.
Maintains scan, imaging and processing equipment in good condition.
Produces the highest quality images possible.
Submits complete studies for radiologist review.
Maintains professional, considerate and congenial work relationships with patients, staff and the public. Observes strict rules of patient confidentiality.
Keeps abreast of current techniques, procedures and policies.
Keeps equipment and work area clean, organized and well stocked and functioning properly.
Is ARDMS registered in vascular ultrasound, or works toward becoming ARDMS registered in vascular ultrasound.
Observes all clinic guidelines and policies.
Knowledge and Skills:
At least two years of similar or related experience is preferred.
(1) A two year college degree or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or (3) Completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program.
Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the job.
Manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination for operation and repair of all departmental equipment. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 lbs. Lifts and appropriately positions patients weighing up to 300 lbs. Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 to operate equipment and review developed films.
